Karl-Anthony Towns is the star of an overseas NBA night show. The Minnesota Timberwolves beat the San Antonio Spurs with 60 points, 149-139, setting a new club record and a league-high this season.
Towns surpassed his personal best since March 2018, when he scored 56 points against Atlanta. So far this season, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers and Trae Young of Atlanta have scored the most in a single game with 56 points.
Strelecky especially exploded in the third quarter, scoring 32 of the team’s 46 points. Overall, he was 19-for-31 from the field, 7-for-11 from 3-point range and 15-for-16 from the free throw line.
“I told the coach before the game that we needed to win, but until then I did everything and played my part.” Towns, 20, said he led the team’s win over the Spurs with 17 rebounds. Minnesota has its second straight win and eighth place in the past two games.
Stephen Curry scored 47 points on his 34th birthday and Draymond Green returned after missing 29 games, both helping Golden State beat Washington 126-112. In a battle between the two contenders, Nikola Jokic (22 points and 13 rebounds) won the league’s MVP award, but Denver traveled to Philadelphia on Wednesday with Joel Embiid (34 points). The hosts won 114:110.
